abstract = "Forest fires, both of natural and anthropogenic origin, have an
important role in regional and global ecological and climatic
systems. They account for a significant portion of greenhouse gas
emissions and soil degradation. Despite the high frequency and
significant disturbance caused to the Cerrado biome, fire dynamics
and dependence on climatic factors is still not well understood.
It is necessary to study the monthly and annual variation of
burned areas and their relation to precipitation. This work has
estimated monthly burned areas during the period 2005 to 2014 for
this biome. The estimates are from the AQM algorithm (INPE /
UFRJ), while the rainfall data used are from the Tropical Rainfall
Measuring Mission (TRMM). It was identified and mapped the
frequency of burned areas in the Cerrado in pixels of 1 km˛ for
the mentioned period. The Cerrado has an average annual burned
                         area of 381.186 ± 128.845 km˛. There is a significant positive
relationship between precipitation and burned areas, both intra
and inter-annual scale. The intra-annual analysis showed that the
occurrence of fires has a strong relation with the dry season,
with a delay of two months. Public policies should be concentrated
in the critical drought months because the months on their
influence represent almost all of the fires each year.",
